Black Orcs and Boar Boyz

If anything keeps people from playing wargames, it's the gigantic cost of building an army. There are however some ways to reduce costs on your army. In this article I'll be discussing alternatives for the expensive black orcs and boar bozy. This article requires you to buy some parts and sprues by mail order. Any items you should buy are listed at the bottom of the page. As well as some other parts which aren't required but can prove usefull.

The Boar Boyz and Black Orcs in this article aren'r exactly the same as the orignal ones, but they are compiled in such a way that they will be good alternatives. They can also be use on any games workshop sponsored event, since they are 100% games workshop products.

Bitz you should have:

Form the Orc regiment set: - 4 spear arms (right arm)
- 4 arms with weapon (right arm)
- 8 random arms (left)
other: - 4 Orc shields (or more if you want to equip the black orcs with them)

What you should buy:

- 4 x Orc command sprue
- 4 x Boar body
- 4 x boar head
- ? x shield (Everybody probably has some spare ones)

Black Orcs

First of all we'll create a black orc. This is the easy bit. Use the unit champion, stick some additional bits on him (if desired) and paint him up like a black orc. Very convincing and easy to blend in with other Black Orcs.

Boar Boyz

Put together the boar, and stick the mounted orc legs, orc body and a head on them. Add one of the spears from the regiment box and a left arm, preferably without weapon. And add a shield.

The remaining parts

At this point you still have an Orc body, 2 orc legs and an Orc head left. If you put these together you'll have another orc. He does require some arms from the regiment set to complete, but most Orc generals have these lying around by the bundle.

If you want to get realy creative, you could sculpt a body from green stuff and put the extra legs to good use. The easiest body to create is the body of a savage orc. See article elsewhere on this site.

Normal Orc Boyz cost 6,- per model. Black Orcs cost 6,- per two models. So if you want 4 Boar Boyz and 4 Black Orcs this would be:

This means you save 7,60 and get four free Orcs as well. There's even four Orc legs left if you feel creative.

Note of the author:
Since I wrote this article some of the prices have gone up. So it's not as great a deal as it once used to be, but still you pay less and get more models. It doesn't even require any sculpting or anything.
