Heinrich von Averland

Heinrich is a commoner of birth, but for his duty in the borderwars with the Orcs he has been given a title, name and lands. The borderwars were mostly a struggle for the control over the rim of the world edge mountains. In this war, Heinrich managed to link several small villages into one strong defensive line, using nothing more than a few state troops and mostly militia.

Heinrich was a former swordsmen, leading his unit into the fray he saw his superiors fall to the enemy. After the very first of battle he was the only officer left on the field. The enemy was encircling the small band of warriors he had left and in stead of running Heinrich led the force straight into the main body of the Orcish horde. This brave move took the Orcs by surprise and their main battle line began to crumble. Their flanking forces could not be there in time to save them. The bold charge turned the tide of battle and instead of an Orcish massacre it became a victory for the Emperial forces. A victory with more losses than they dared think about, but a victory nonetheless.

Back in the village, in stead of getting a good nights sleep, Heinrich began to gather the militia from the villages and steads surrounding the area. Every man able to bear arms came to defend the borders. Old men, young men and even children were given weapons and armor. Women helped by taking care of supplies and the wounded. A wooden barrier was placed around the villages. Lonely steads were evacuated and their inhabitants took part in the defense of the villages. Within two days a set of small villages were turned into defendable fortifications. Fortifications that lasted until the war was over.

For this achievement Heinrich received the honor of being given the rank of captain in the Emperial army and the titles to go along with it.
